Hi there! I’m Rudolf Hendrikx.

I live and work in Sydney, Australia, but grew up in the south of the Netherlands on a small farm built by my great-grandparents. I spoke with a strong, southern accent known as ‘Brabants’, and when I moved to Amsterdam to pursue acting, casting directors asked me to neutralise the way my voice sounded.

While teaching myself Standard Dutch as a teenager, I became aware of the sounds that we make, the ability to adapt those sounds for different purposes, and their effect on the listener.

Actor training and yoga training have given me a deep understanding of our mind and body, both in movement and in stillness. Similarly, I have learnt that the voice is an intrinsic and powerful part of the body through my MFA in Voice studies. This MFA allowed me to acquire technical skills related to effective and optimal use of the human voice. I have integrated these skills both as an actor and teacher, and enjoy coaching vocal freedom through movement, the effect our vocal change can have on the perceiver, and the ways in which we can use this to our advantage.

As a voice coach, I have taught at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) and Actors Centre Australia (ACA), and as a guest in South Africa at the University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and the University of Capetown as well as coaching professional theatre productions. Currently I work with the artists at Midnight Feast Theatre Company on voice, text and speech.

In addition to teaching in higher education and on productions, I coach private and group classes in voice, speech, text and presentation skills.

Further more I have a special interest in working with:

  • People who live with a disability

  • Trans People

  • Addiction

  • People from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

  • Inclusivity in Vocal Pedagogy
